Baby Shower/Lake:
We went to Dallas earlier this month to spend time with Rob's family and I had Lorelei's baby shower in Dallas! Before the shower, Rob and I (and the 2 dogs), went to the lake to see my mom and sisters. We had a great time relaxing and sunburning. Well, I don't know that Rob really got sunburned, but I certainly did. I wore my maternity tankini, but while on the float in the lake, I pulled up the top to get a tan on my big belly. Turns out, I just burned the belly. I also somehow burned my legs in a very odd pattern. By this I mean that I had white finger/hand marks on some parts of my legs, and bright red on other parts. The funny thing was that I did not remember ever putting sunscreen on my legs so I don't know how the handprints got there! After 2 days at the lake, we drove back to Frisco and got to spend time with Rob's family and have the baby shower! My very sweet mother in law and sister in law hosted the shower and it was beautiful! Pretty flowers, great food, and very fun games. We are so blessed to have such loving family and friends that wanted to celebrate Lorelei's upcoming arrival with us. Be sure and look at the finished cradle! Well, Tom would tell you it is not complete because he wants to do some more things to the finish. Brooke and Shalinda put the baby gifts in the cradle at the shower and it looked so cute! The cradle is beautiful and we can't wait to put little Lorelei in it!
Nursery:
FINALLY all the nursery furniture is put together. The glider came first and I was so impatient that while Rob was at work, I put it together. I was very proud of myself for such an accomplishment! Then came the dresser. This was no easy task, as the directions were terrible and parts were not labeled. Once Rob had almost finished the dresser, we discovered that the company had sent us incorrect pieces!! So, we could not finish putting it together until they mailed us the correct ones. (Did I already tell this story? I feel like I have already blogged about this challenging dresser...) Anyways, the dresser is put together now, as well as the crib. I have put lots of things in their place and started doing baby laundry, and we hope to hang a few more things on the wall this weekend. Then, I can post nursery pictures!
Photo Sessions:
The dogs and I had a little photo session yesterday morning. Rob was at work and I knew that I wanted to have a black and white picture of the dogs in a collage frame that is going to hang on the wall in Lorelei's room. So, I began with Milo and then figured I would move on to the more challenging dog, Maggie. Milo was a good sport. He just sat and looked at me, occasionally giving me a very weird 'what are you doing' look. Maggie was....impossible. I decided to get them in a picture together and she just about ruined every one of them. While Milo was sitting so still and cute, Maggie either was itching, barking, scratching, rolling, or decided she didn't want to sit where I put her and moved away. I finally got a good one and I think it will look good in the frame! I have uploaded a few of the results from the shoot! The rest of the photo collage frame will be filled with maternity pictures and newborn pictures. We are having the maternity pictures taken on Monday!!
Maggie:
Maggie has been sorta freaking out about the nursery. Similar freak out as when we moved into this house 2 years ago. She goes in there and sniffs around and lays around. Rob and I talked about not letting the dogs go in the nursery but that lasted about as long as it took to have the quick conversation. After we discussed it and decided we should keep them out, they were in there. As I have brought baby things home, Maggie looks very concerned. Well yesterday I was getting things done around the house and happened to walk by the nursery. The glider had several things on that I had not gotten to put away yet. So it wasn't like the glider was a free and clear lounging place. Maggie was sitting very still and upright on the glider. She must have just jumped up in it! It wasn't like she was just hanging out there and relaxing. She was just perched on a very crowded glider!!
Rob's Car:
We sold the truck yesterday!! I think I was more sad than Rob was. He still likes the Honda and even had the cd players switched in the truck and the Honda since I had an ipod connection put in his truck last year for his birthday. He said he wanted to be able to listen to Dave on his ipod in his Dave car, so it was pretty much necessary that we get the ipod connection put into the Honda.
Childbirth Education Classes:
We have had 2 classes so far and I have to say that I really enjoy them but I would enjoy them even more if we could spend the whole 2.5 hours (instead of 20 minutes) practicing massage techniques. This past Monday we got on the mats with the pillows on the floor (just like in the movies) and practiced breathing and then the dear husbands (or "birthing partner" or "coach" as they like to call them to be p.c.), practiced massage technique! It was very relaxing! Both Rob and I have minor problems with the class. Rob's problem is that he is bored. I think he might be a fabulous assistant to the RN who teaches it because he pretty much knows everything she tells us. However, this won't last long. After the 3rd or 4th class, the baby is born and we then learn about baby care. In which classes, he should be ready to sit on the edge of his seat (me as well)!! His other problem is with the clueless people in our class. Let me provide 2 examples. 1. We discussed at what point to go to the hospital. Then we reviewed the stages of labor. The teacher mentions crowning and tells what that is. Man asks "So at that point we are still at home right?" Umm no! 2. Another couple I guess is having some sort of problem deciding if she will have an epidural. So we have to listen to the couple ask about 50 epidural questions. Then, man asks "What is the big controversy with epidurals?" Hello? Some people are naturalists, some are not. duh. On to my problem with the class, which also has to do with-you guessed it-some people in the class! On the first night we had to go around and introduce ourselves and tell what we loved and hated about pregnancy. It is important to know that there are 25 couples in this class. So while you are introducing yourself, there are 24 other pregnant ladies listening. Some of the women hate pregnancy entirely. Which is sorta negative, but maybe they have good reason to. A few other women (grrrr) ABSOLUTELY LOVE BEING PREGNANT and there is not a single thing to hate!! Really? I mean they are saying this in front of 24 other women, whom they don't know anything about, and I guarantee that some of those 24 are having very difficult pregnancies. So the overly happy pregnant ladies who have no idea what anyone else is going through...need to shut it. Ok that is all. Sorry for the long paragraph that I said wasn't going to happen.
I totally now what you mean about others loving pregnancy and not getting that it's hard for others.
ReplyDeleteOn another note about Maggie (your dog, not our baby :). We had a friend who was dog sitting get a blanket from us that we wrapped the baby in. He brought it home and gave it to our dog so she recognized the baby when we brought her home. We read this idea in several places. Thought it might help.
